UPDATE (Sept. 21, 2023): The planned stormwater drainage work requiring the Georgetown Pike to I-495 North ramp closure in McLean that previously was scheduled for this Fri., Sept. 22 through Sunday, Sept. 24, has been postponed and is rescheduled for next weekend, Fri., Sept. 29 through Sunday, Oct. 1, with work taking place Sunday night to Monday morning, Oct. 2, if needed. The work hours and detour will be the same as listed below.

FAIRFAX, VA – Between the hours of midnight and 5 a.m. starting Wednesday, May 31 and continuing through Friday, June 2, 495 NEXT project work crews will implement periodic stoppages of all lanes for up to 30 minutes on the northbound I-495 general purpose and express lanes near the Lewinsville Road overpass and George Washington Memorial Parkway interchange (Exit 43). Single lane closures to start in mid-October for 495 NEXT construction
MCLEAN, VA – Starting on or about September 26, 495 NEXT project crews will begin repair work on the east- and westbound George Washington Memorial Parkway bridges over the Capital Beltway. This work will occur during nighttime hours and will include some noisy activities such as sawing and hammering. FAIRFAX- The Green Arrow/Red X left-shoulder lane on northbound I-495 (the Capital Beltway) in Virginia, which is open during morning and afternoon peak travel periods from where the current I-495 Express Lanes end near the Dulles Access Road to the George Washington Memorial Parkway, will close permanently as early as May 31, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). The closure of this shoulder lane is necessary to make space in the center of the Beltway for construction of new bridges that will span the wider, future Beltway at Old Dominion Drive, Georgetown Pike and Live Oak Drive. Funding approved to conduct environmental analysis of project
RICHMOND – Virginia's Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) approved funding in the amount of $6 million Wednesday for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to conduct an environmental study of a plan to extend the I-495 Express Lanes by approximately three miles from the I-495 and Dulles Toll Road interchange to the vicinity of the American Legion Bridge and Maryland line. This northern extension to the 495 Express Lanes would help relieve a traffic-choked section of I-495 by providing more capacity, new travel choices and benefits for carpoolers.
