Closures needed for bridge girder work at Live Oak Drive Bridge in McLean

FAIRFAX, VA - Weather permitting, crews plan to set steel girders tonight, Friday, April 12, at the Live Oak Drive bridge in McLean, and during overnight hours next week Monday, April 15 through Thursday, April 18. The new Live Oak Drive bridge is being built as part of the 495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project.

Work and closures will continue during overnight hours this week and through April for bridge girder work

FAIRFAX, VA - Weather permitting, crews plan to continue setting steel girders tonight, Wednesday, April 3, at the Georgetown Pike and Live Oak Drive bridges in McLean. This work is also scheduled to occur during overnight hours Thursday, April 4 and Friday, April 5, and will continue during overnight hours, Mondays through Fridays, through April as weather conditions allow.

Motorists should follow detour; Expect delays on I-495 North and South

Update: Wednesday, March 27, 2024, 1 p.m. Based on weather conditions, the bridge girder work and closures on I-495 in Virginia near McLean are cancelled for tonight, March 27. Work and closures remain scheduled for tomorrow night, March 28.

FAIRFAX, VA - On or about this Wednesday night, March 27, and Thursday night, March 28, three lanes of northbound and southbound I-495 (Capital Beltway) will be closed for crews to set steel girders at the Georgetown Pike and Live Oak Drive bridges in McLean, weather permitting. Intermittent traffic stoppages of up to 30 minutes each also will occur. The work is part of the 495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project.
